American rapper Moneybagg Yo was born Demario DeWayne White in Memphis,
Tennessee on September 22, 1991. Early mixtapes such as 2012’s From Da Block
2 Da Booth, 2014’s La Familia (2014), and 2016’s Federal Reloaded
and steadily grew a fanbase. He signed to Collective Music Group in 2016. This groundwork
allowed for 2017’s Heartless to reach number 177 on the Billboard 200, and
later that same year 2 Federal would reach number 97, and his commercial
fortunes would continue to rise when Federal 3X hit number 5. His 2018 debut studio album Reset
went to number 13 on the Billboard 200, and 2019’s 43va Heartless
reached number 4 and 2020’s Time Served peaked at number 3. “U Played”,
a single from the album, gave him his best showing on the pop chart by hitting
number 53. The 2020 mixtape Code Red included the number 17 pop hit “Said
Sum”, his biggest hit single to that point. His fourth official album, A
Gangster’s Plan, dropped in April of 2021 and became his first LP to top main
album chart, the rap chart, and the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The single “Time
Today” returned him to the top 40, and “Hard for the Next” became
his fourth top 20 rap single.
