The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is an emo band from Middleburg, Florida, where the band was formed by high-school classmates Ronnie Winter and Duke Kitchens in 2003. Inspired by pop, punk, and alternative rock, the band released a self-titled demo in 2004, then partnered with Virgin Records for the full-length debut album Don't You Fake it in 2006. The album debuted at Number 25 in America and eventually went platinum, thanks in large part to the hit single "Face Down." The song enjoyed success across multiple formats, reaching Number 3 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart, Number 1 on the Christian Rock chart, Number 10 on the US Pop 100, and Number 24 on Billboard's Hot 100. Although the band's follow-up release, Lonely Road, reached Number 14 on the Billboard 200 in 2009, it failed to replicate the physical sales that its predecessor enjoyed, with its biggest single, "Pen & Paper," stalling at Number 75 on the Hot 100. Released two years later, 2011's Am I the Enemy marked the band's final album to feature co-founder Duke Kitchens. The title track became the band's second chart-topping hit on the Christian Rock chart. Released in 2013, the EP Et Tu, Brute? produced another pair of Number 1 Christian hits with "Remember Me" and "Wide is the Gate." 2014's full-length album 4 expanded the group's collection of chart-topping Christian singles yet again, with both "The Right Direction" and "It Was You" climbing to Number 1. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus topped the chart yet again with 2018's "On Becoming Willing," then reached the Top 40 of the Alternative Songs chart in 2023 with a symphonic version of the band's career-launching single, "Face Down."
