Biografia

Marisela is a Mexican-American singer and actress. She was born Marisela Esqueda on April 24, 1966, in Los Angeles, California. She became involved in music at a very young age, taking acting and singing lessons at the age of 6. Soon, she was appearing on the American TV show Villa Alegre. In her teens, she began performing in venues throughout California. In 1984, at the age of 18, she released her debut album Sin Él, earning acclaim in the local music scene with the album’s title track. This early period of her career featured close collaboration with the songwriter and performer Marco Antonio Solís (of Los Bukis fame), who wrote many of her early songs. Her sophomore album Completamente Tuya came out in 1985 and proved extremely successful, largely thanks to singles like "Enamorada y Herida," "Mi Problema," and the emotive ballad "Ahora No." She continued to gain popularity through her duets with El Salvadorian singer Álvaro Torres. Her profile kept growing with her appearance in the hit film Salsa (1988), for which she performed the song "I Know." Over the following years, she released albums such as Porque Tengo Ganas (1986), Marisela (1989), Hablemos Claro (1990), and Marisela con Banda Sinaloense (1990), her first foray into Regional Mexican music. Through the course of the 1990s, Marisela recorded some of her most popular albums, including 1992’s Adiós Amor and 1998’s Voz y Sentimiento, the latter of which includes her Spanish-language version of the Willie Nelson song "Crazy." She continued releasing music throughout the 2000s and 2010s, and in 2019 she celebrated her career trajectory with the release of a live album and film titled 35 Años de Canciones.
