Evergrey

Evergrey is a progressive metal band from Sweden founded in 1993. After the first demo recordings following its formation, it took until 1998 before the debut album The Dark Discovery was released. Musically, the band is oriented towards role models such as Dream Theater or Tad Morose. However, the overall mood of the music is sombre. This is why Evergrey later chose the term Melodic Dark Power Metal. The album In Search for Truth was the band's first chart entry in their native Sweden in 2001, reaching number 59. The albums that followed continued to climb the charts and also increased Evergrey's international profile. In 2008, Torn reached number 4 in the Swedish album charts. This is followed by a number of line-up changes within the band. Glorious Collision was released with renewed energy and climbed to number 8 in Sweden in 2011. The follow-up, Hymns for the Broken, reached number 62 in the German charts for the first time in 2014. Increasing international fame brings better rankings. The 2021 album Escape of the Phoenix climbed to number 12 in Germany and achieved further placings in Austria, Switzerland and Sweden, among others. A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) followed just one year later and again reached number 12 in Germany. At the end of 2023, Evergrey celebrated their 30th anniversary with From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits, a kind of retrospective of their work over the past three decades. Another studio album, Theories of Emptiness, follows in June 2024.
