Edelweiss, an Austrian electronic music group formed in 1988, gained international recognition with their debut single "Bring Me Edelweiss" produced by Martin Gletschermeyer and Walter Werzowa. The song featured vocals by Maria Mathis and included a cover version of ABBA's "SOS" with new lyrics. Released in 1988, the track topped charts in multiple countries, sold over three million copies, and earned a World Music Award. Edelweiss followed up with an album featuring eight versions of "Bring Me Edelweiss", but subsequent releases like "I Can't Get No …(Edelweiss)" failed to replicate this success. In 1992, the group returned with "Raumschiff Edelweiss", a blend of yodeling and themes from the TV series Star Trek, which reached Number 1 in Austria and Number 7 in Germany. The accompanying album, Wonderful World of Edelweiss, included notable singles like "Planet Edelweiss" and "Ski Instructor". Tragically, band member Thomas Schlögl committed suicide shortly before the release of "Planet Edelweiss", leading to the cancellation of promotional activities for the single. Edelweiss attempted a comeback in 1997 with "Edeltaler Hochzeitsmarsch", but it was commercially unsuccessful.
