Dreamy indie folk trio Daughter create lush acoustic melodies and fragile harmonies, delivered with an icy melancholy that broods like Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell and scores of classic introspective singer-songwriters. Led by Elena Tonra's lyrics of broken-hearted bitterness and vengeful angst, the group formed in 2010 when she met Igor Haefeli (guitar) and Remi Aguilella (drums) while studying at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London. Releasing EP The Wild Youth (2011) through Communion Records (founded by Mumford & Sons' Ben Lovett), they were enthusiastically championed by Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens and impressed critics with the atmospheric beauty of singles Smother, Human and Youth. Debut album If You Leave (2013) drew comparisons with The XX, Laura Marling and Cat Power as it went on to reach Number 16 in the UK charts to mark Daughter out as one of the breakthrough acts of 2013/14. Their track Youth was used as the theme music for ITV4's coverage of the Tour de France.
