The Seattle indie folk band The Head and the Heart have been on an upward trajectory in the music business since forming in 2009. The band started out selling their own albums (packaged in hand made denim sleeves) at gigs and through local record stores. Interest in the band grew so rapidly that the shops frequently ran out of stock. After what has been described as a feeding frenzy of activity from A&R men eager to sign the band they cut a deal with Sub Pop who re-released the group's self titled debut album. Through a combination of promoting the band at gigs and widespread interest following an appearance on network television on Conan O'Brien's late night talk show the album spent ten weeks in the Billboard 200. The band have steadily built up a following by performing carefully chosen support slots with bands such as Vampire Weekend, The Walkmen, Dave Matthews and Iron and Wine and this coupled with a number of their album tracks being used by TV shows has reflected favourably in record sales and chart positions. The band's 2016 release 'Signs of Light' reached the top five in the US charts and became the band's second consecutive top ten album.
