Victoria Duffield hasn’t stood still since the moment she learned to walk. Singing, writing, dancing, acting – her calendar is filled with everything but a day off.
In 2010, at only 15 years of age, she caught the attention of Warner Music. A year later, they released her debut single “Shut Up and Dance” to resounding success. The track earned platinum status for sales in excess of 120,000 and was the most played song at radio by a Canadian artist for nine weeks. The video for “Shut Up and Dance” earned Victoria a MuchMusic Video Award nomination and reached No. 1 spot on the station’s Top 20 Countdown.
Victoria’s debut album, 'Shut Up and Dance,' was released in the summer of 2012, and it propelled the pride of Abbotsford, BC into pop superstardom. 'Shut Up and Dance' was nominated for a Juno Award in the pop album category and Victoria won a Canadian Radio Music Award and Nielsen Entertainment’s Emerging Artist Award. Victoria’s singles have amassed more than 100,000 spins at radio, while her music videos combined to garner more than 10 million views on YouTube.
But it’s not in her DNA to slow down for a second. So now, Victoria says, is the time to ACCELERATE.
Victoria spent the better part of the last 18 months working in Los Angeles, London, Toronto and Vancouver, working with some of the best producers in the business. They explored Victoria's vocals; showcasing her falsetto (as heard in “Cherry Red”), her different tones of her natural voice (“More than Friends” and “Paper Planes”), and her passion and power (the ballad “Sawdust”).
Much like with her debut album, Victoria was instrumental in the writing process for 'Accelerate.' This time, however, Victoria was able to make the album more personal.
“I was 16 when I started working on my last album. Most of my inspiration and stories came from my friends.” Now 19, Victoria recorded a much more intimate album about her own life and her own relationships.
“I was able to deal with experiences that I actually went through. To me, 'Accelerate' is about moving forward – and getting all my thoughts out of my head and into the studio helped me do that.”
And while her growth as an artist is evident by the music on 'Accelerate,' Victoria says 19 is “a great age to be. I’ve grown up a little but I’m still a teenager. I still have an incredible connection with my younger fans.”
