Biografie

John McLaughlin is a British jazz, jazz fusion, progressive and psychedelic rock guitarist who was born into a musical family and studied music as a child. He had stints playing with Alexis Korner, Georgie Fame and Brian Auger. John McLaughlin joined the Graham Bond Quartet - featuring Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker - in the early 1960s. He went on to collaborate with artists such as Tony Williams, Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. In 1971, he founded the Mahavishnu Orchestra and released critically acclaimed albums such as The Inner Mounting Flame (1971), Birds of Fire (1973), and Inner Worlds (1976). As a solo artist and bandleader, he released the albums Extrapolation (1969), Devotion (1970), Electric Guitarist (1978), Belo Horizonte (1981), Que Alegria (1992), The Promise (1995), Thieves and Poets (2003), Floating Point (2008), Now Here This (2012) and Black Light (2015). Over the years, he has collaborated with many musicians including Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, Carlos Santana, Dave Holland, Shankar Mahadevan and many others. In 2021, John McLaughlin released the album Liberation Time, which was recorded during the pandemic lockdown. The album features musical assistance from Gary Husband, Julian Siegel, Vinnie Colaiuta, Sam Burgess, Etienne MBappe, Ranjit Barot, and many others.
