Biografie

Founded in Glasgow, Scotland in 1970, Middle of the Road was a Europop band that mined the same type of pop music that ABBA would eventually bring to charts around the world in the mid-1970s. Formed by singer Sally Carr, drummer Ken Andrew, guitarist Ian McCredie, and his brother bassist Eric McCredie, Middle of the Road released their debut single "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" in 1970. The single rose to the top of the UK singles chart and was the beginning of a series of hit singles including 1971’s "Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum", "Soley, Soley”, and “Sacramento (A Wonderful Town)” plus 1972’s “Samson and Delilah”. Pioneers of Europop thanks to their distinctive harmonies before the rise of Abba, Middle of the Road went on to release several albums and compilations despite several personnel changes, the last of which, A New Chapter, was released in 1994. Original member Ian McCredie has continued to tour occasionally under the band’s name.
