Biografie

Hikaru Utada is a New York-born Japanese pop singer whose father Teruzane Utada is in the music business and whose mother Junko also is a singer under the name Keiko Fuji. Utada began writing music as a youngster and made records with her mother in a band called U3 and sometimes Utada 3. She performed and released an album titled 'Precious' under the name Cubic U and in 1998 she moved to Tokyo where, aged 16, she made her debut album, 'First Love', which was a huge hit in Japan.

Her 2001 single 'Blow My Whistle' with Foxy Brown is heard on the soundtrack of the 2001 Jackie Chan motion picture 'Rush Hour 2'. Albums including 'Distance' (2001) and 'Deep River' (2001) made her a major star in Japan and in 2004 in New York City she recorded 'Exodus' which went to number five on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart and number 160 on the Billboard 200. The track 'Devil Inside' topped the Dance Club Songs Chart and 'Exodus '04' peaked at number 24. She returned to Tokyo for 'Ultra Blue' (2006), another Japanese hit with several hit singles.

She moved back and forth from America to Japan and in 2009 'This Is the One' reached number six on the Heatseekers Album Chart and number 69 on the Billboard 200. The track 'Come Back to Me' went to number five on Billboard's Dance Club Songs Chart and 'Dirty Desire' hit number 16. In 2016, her album 'Fantome' topped Billboard's World Albums Chart and 'Hatsukoi' (2018) peaked at number three. The single 'Face My Fears' with Skrillex topped the iTunes charts in America and Japan and went to number nine on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart in February 2019.
