French jazz artist, composer, and television personality André Manoukian was born in Lyon on April 9, 1957. A pianist from the age of 7, he eventually attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He bounced around France in the early 1980s and enjoyed his biggest success when he became the professional and personal partner of singer Liane Foly. He would write and produce many of her albums including 1988’s The Man I Love, 1993’s Les Petites Notes, and 2004’s La Chanteuse de Bal. He occasionally worked to compose scores for films including 1993’s Les Ténors, 2006’s Four Stars, and 2013’s La Grande boucle. He became most famous as a judge on the reality competition show Nouvelle Star, a job he began in 2003. He launched his solo career in 2008 with the LP Inkala. That was followed by 2010’s So in Love, 2011’s Melenchology, and 2017’s Apatride. In 2020 he released Les Pianos de Gainsbourg, a tribute to the legendary French pop star Serge Gainsbourg.
