Biografie

Hailing from England's wellspring of musical innovation, Croydon, Peter O'Grady aka electronic music pioneer Joy Orbison became acquainted with UK club music through his uncle Ray Keith – a significant figure on the drum 'n' bass scene – and made his first foray into DJing aged 13. He began producing with Fruity Loops software while in his 20s and gained immediate recognition for his paradigm-shifting, post-dubstep debut single "Hyph Mngo," which was released in 2009 on dubstep favorite Hotflush Recordings and mixed early rave-esque vocals with dubstep flavors for a refreshing and universally acclaimed take on the genre. Joy Orbison's fate was sealed, and "Hyph Mngo" was followed by the single "BRKLN CLLN," released on his own Doldrums Recordings later that year. Over the next decade, he unleashed a steady stream of singles blending elements of jungle, garage, house, techno, breakbeat and electronica, including dancefloor-ready bangers like 2012's "Ellipsis" and 2011's "Sicko Cell," as well as 2018's "Transition 2" with Ben Vince and a number of records with Boddika. In 2017, Joy Orbison curated the fourth volume of Dekmantel's unmixed compilation series, Selectors 004, and two years later dropped his more experimental-leaning Slipping EP. 2021 saw the release of his debut, personal-led full-length, Still Slipping, Vol. 1, which brought together an array of electronic styles including garage and IDM.
