Though the DJ and record producing duo of Sunnery James (born Sunnery Gorré) & Ryan Marciano (born Ryan de Lange) hail from Amsterdam, each traces their ancestry to Surinam. They formed their partnership in 2006 when they became co-workers at a clothing store. By the next year, after discovering similar artistic interests, they began creating music. Before the decade was out, they started making a name for themselves in the world of EDM thanks to their energetic live performances. They started releasing singles in the 2010s, and while tracks like “Lethal Industry” and “Finally Here” earned them the attention of more established artists, it was 2013’s “Triton” that finally got them on the charts, becoming a top 20 dance track in Belgium. “S.O.T.U.” with Nicky Romero charted the next year, and the duo became known for their remixes on such recordings as Ferry Corsten’s “Ain’t No Stoppin’” and “Take Over Control” by Afrojack. They maintained their brad of catchy dance tracks throughout the decade, and started the 2020s with the August release of “Life After You”, a triumphant break-up song with vocals by Rani.
