Biografie
New Kids on the Block sind eine 1984 gegründete Boyband
und Popgruppe aus den USA. Ihr Debütalbum New Kids on the Block findet
1986 noch wenig Aufmerksamkeit. Das zweite Album Hangin’ Tough macht die Band 1988 auf einen Schlag
weltberühmt. Die Scheibe wird unter anderem ein Nummer-1-Hit in den USA, landet
auf Platz 2 in UK und belegt Platz 4 in Deutschland. Die Singles „You Got It
(The Right Stuff)“ und „Hangin' Tough“ werden zu weltweiten Hits.
Das nächste Album Step by Step wird 1990 ein noch größerer Charterfolg.
Wieder schaffen die New Kids on the Block weltweit Nummer-1-Platzierungen. Der
Titelsong „Step by Step“ schafft es in den USA auf Platz 1, in
Großbritannien auf Platz 2 und klettert in Deutschland auf Platz 8. Danach ist
der Erfolg der Boygroup schon wieder vorbei. Die New Kids on the Block
veröffentlichen mit Face the Music (1994) noch ein weiteres Album. In
den Charts bleiben die großen Erfolge aus. Somit löst sich die Band 1994 auf.
2008 gibt es eine Wiedervereinigung. Mit The Block und 10 veröffentlichen
die neuen New Kids on the Block zwei weitere Alben.
