Die 3. Generation is a German hip-hop trio from Berlin. Assembled by Arne Beyer’s Telemedia GmbH label, the group consisted of Tolga Ölmez, Julian Strehle, and Darko Kordic. Preceded by the Top 10 single “Vater, wo bist du?,” their eponymous studio debut came out in 1998 and peaked at Number 42 on the German Albums Chart. In 1999, the group received the Echo Award for Best New Band and followed up with the album Für morgen later that year. The band’s popularity reached new heights when the track “Leb!” (2000) was used as the theme music on the first season of the German version of the reality show Big Brother, helping the band to score the first Number 1 single of their career. That year, their song “Glaub an dich” was featured on the show Kikania. Following the tepid reception of the albums Die Dritte (2000), Alles, was du willst (2001), and Runde 5 (2004), Die 3. Generation finally disbanded in 2004. Subsequently, a remake of their breakthrough single “Leb!” appeared on Big Brother’s 9th and 11th seasons.
