Biografie

Bedouine is the indie-folk project of songwriter Azniv Korkejian, who began building an audience after releasing her self-titled debut album in 2017. Born to an Armenian family in Aleppo, Syria, she spent the first half of her childhood in Saudi Arabia, where she attended an American school and was exposed to a diverse mix of American, Armenian, and Arabic pop culture. This multi-cultural upbringing would later influence her own songwriting, which evoked both the erudite folk music of the 1970s and the worldly perspectives of a Millennial. The family later moved to America, where Azniv Korkejian studied sound design and eventually landed a job editing music for films. One of her biggest film projects, the Oscar-nominated The Big Sick, was released in 2017, as was her first album under the Bedouine moniker. Named after the nomadic Arab people, Bedouine became a critically-acclaimed project on both sides of the Atlantic, with the self-titled album receiving enthusiastic reviews for its mix of acoustic arrangements, introspective lyrics, and low, stately vocal performances. Heralded as a modern-day Joni Mitchell, Azniv Korkejian released a two-track single of cover songs before returning in 2019 with Bedouine's second album, Bird Songs of a Killjoy. The record was produced by Gus Seyffert, who also helmed Korkejian's debut.
