Kylie Morgan is an American country-pop singer from Newcastle, Oklahoma. Born as "Sheena Leeann Thompson," she pursued a career as a childhood gymnast for ten years before shifting her focus to music. She started writing songs as a teenager and made frequent trips to Nashville, where she collaborated with co-writers like Rob Crosby and Liz Hengber. She later relocated to Nashville at 19 years old, not long after her high school graduation. Mentored by the Grammy-winning songwriters Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, she began releasing material under her stage name in 2017, with "The Moment" marking her official debut. "Boys Girl" followed in 2019. Released by EMI Nashville, the song was followed by a string of momentum-building singles throughout 2020. One of those songs, "Break Things," earned more than 5 million digital streams in five weeks, while another, "Cuss a Little," featuring an appearance from country star Walker Hayes. Her first collection of original material — the EP Love, Kylie — was released in June 2021, with Morgan co-writing all six of the record's tracks. One year later, she hit a new milestone with "Independent With You," an empowered song that went viral on social media in March 2022.
