Sofia Hultquist, known professionally as Drum & Lace, was born on February 7, 1986 in Florence, Italy, and is an electronic trip-hop composer. She began her musical journey at age seven with classical piano lessons and later learned drums and guitar. After receiving an undergraduate degree from Berklee College of Music and a master's from New York University, Hultquist launched Drum & Lace as a solo project in late 2013. Drum & Lace released their first EPs Dark Nights & Neon Lights and The Giving & The Taking in 2016. Notable works include the soundtrack for the documentary film The First Monday in May, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017, and the feature film The Gospel According to André. Her compositions are also seen in the films At the Heart of Gold: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2019), and Red, White & Royal Blue (Amazon Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2023).
