Biography

Gédéon Mundele Ngolo (August 2, 1994), aka Franglish, is a French rapper and singer of Congolese and Togolese origins who rose to fame after his involvement with rap collective Brownie Dubz Gang. Known for his freestyle abilities, both in English and French, the MC started rapping at a very young age, inspired by US hip-hop acts Tyga and Bow Wow. Produced by savant beatmaker Richie Beats, Franglish Prototype (2013), his debut mixtape, quickly established Franglish as a force to be reckoned with in the world of underground French hip-hop. The mixtape’s moderate success paved the way for the rapper’s sophomore effort, Changement d’Ambiance (2015), which featured high-profile collaborations with fellow rappers Dadju, Take a Mic, and Abou Debeing. Following the release of the glossy Signature mixtape (2017), the French MC dropped Monsieur (2019), his proper studio debut. Heavily influenced by Afro-pop and urban pop music, the album’s sound paid tribute to the rapper’s African heritage and helped him finally break into the mainstream. In 2020, an expanded version of his first solo album saw the light of day under the name Monsieur (Mood Edition). Spearheaded by the hit singles “Biberon” (with Leto & Tiakola) and “My Salsa” (with Tory Lanez), the LP gained the rapper many accolades throughout several French-speaking countries and cemented his status as a major player in the French rap scene. Preceded by lead single “Sans Moi,” which climbed to Number 41 on the French charts, his second full-length Vibe arrived in 2021, reaching Number 3 in France. In 2022, the collaborative single "La Calle" featuring Koba LaD, included in his fifth Mixtape Mood 2, rose to Number 33 on the French streaming charts.
