A New Orleans-born trumpeter born in 1962, Terence Blanchard got his start in Lionel Hampton's orchestra before joining Art Blakey & the Messengers in 1982, until his departure in 1986. Influenced by hard bop, he developed a personal style in his recordings as a quintet with Donald Harrison, then as leader from 1991. Alongside the albums he recorded under his own name, Terence Blanchard composed extensively for television and film, notably for Spike Lee. The discography of this five-time Grammy Award winner includes Jazz in Film (1999), Let's Get Lost (2001), Bounce (2003) and A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina), released in 2007. This tribute to the victims of the hurricane in his hometown was followed by the albums Choices (2009) and Magnetic (2013). The next one, Breathless (2015), more funk-oriented and featuring PJ Morton (Maroon 5), is produced with his new quintet E-Collective.
