Cellar Darling

After being ejected from Swiss folk metal specialists Eluveitie in June 2016, drummer Merlin Sutter persuaded fellow band members Ivo Henzi (rhythm guitar) and Anna Murphy (hurdy-gurdy) to walk with him and form a new band which they called Cellar Darling. Within four months of leaving Eluveitie the trio had released their debut single 'Challenge' on their own label.

Interest from folk metal fans in the single prompted attention from Eluveitie's label, the German metal specialists Nuclear Blast, and in January 2017 the band signed a contract with their former employers. Cellar Darling began playing live towards the end of 2016 with appearances in Switzerland and Holland supporting well known folk metal bands Amorphis and The Gentle Storm.

Almost exactly a year after the split with Eluveitie the band released their debut album 'This Is the Sound' and received a very positive reaction from the specialist music press with the band being lauded as 'the new sound of Switzerland'.
