Founded in San Francisco in 1970, Oneness of Juju is a jazz, R&B and African funk band fronted by saxophonist, songwriter, and bandleader James ‘Plunky’ Branch (also known as Plunky Nkabinde). Initially, the band was called Juju, but as the lineup and musical style evolved, so did the band’s name. By 1975, Juju had become Oneness of JuJu and released their debut album African Rhythms. The following year, the ensemble released the album Space Jungle Luv (1976). By the time their next album - Make a Change (1980) - was released, they had changed their name to Plunky & Oneness of JuJu. Eventually, the ensemble shortened their name to Plunky & Oneness and have continued to record and perform under this name ever since. Since the mid-1980s, the band’s albums have been released on Plunky’s label, N.A.M.E.
