Hailing from Upton Park, East London, James Smith (February 9, 1999) is a British folk singer-songwriter and guitarist. He first picked up the guitar at the age of 9 and then cut his teeth by performing at local pubs and clubs on the East End during his teenage years. This led to a troubled adolescence, resulting in him getting kicked out of high school at the age of 15. It was around that time that he auditioned for the reality show Britain’s Got Talent with a cover of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good,” making the cut and eventually reaching the finals. His debut EP, Little Love, arrived in 2018 and was followed by the viral singles “T-Shirts” and “Tell Me That You Love Me,” which quickly accumulated millions of streams across platforms. Preceded by the 2019 singles “Hollow” and “Rely on Me,” An EP by James Smith hit the shelves in 2020 and represented a giant leap in terms of songwriting and production, turning his acoustic folk tunes into full-fledged modern pop songs. James Smith continued in this direction with the R&B-flavored “Call Me When It’s Over,” the piano-driven ballad “Yesterday,” and the lush folk of “I Don’t Wanna Know.” In 2021, he delivered “My Oh My,” the first single off of his third EP, District Line.
