Doctor Who: Series 4 - The Specials (Original Television Soundtrack / Deluxe Version)
by Murray Gold
Five times nominated for a BAFTA Award in the Best Original Television Music category, Portsmouth-born Murray Gold has become almost ubiquitous as a composer within the British television industry. He is perhaps best known for his work as the sole composer for the TV series 'Doctor Who'. The series was relaunched in 2005 and Gold was commissioned to write the music and even made a cameo appearance in the 2007 Christmas special episode. His work on Doctor Who frequently references the original music but is enriched with heavy orchestral overlays and lavish arrangements.
Gold has also scored various spin-offs from the series such as 'Torchwood' and 'The Sarah Jane Adventures'. Other examples of Gold's work in popular TV productions can be heard in 'Shameless', 'Queer As Folk', 'Cassanova', 'Single Father' and 'Randall and Hopkirk Deceased'. Not confined to TV work, Gold has also written music for a number of British and US films. The 2003 BAFTA-winning 'Kiss of Life', directed by Emily Young featured a score written by Gold and he was awarded the Mozart Prize of the 7th Art.
