Biography

Born on July 18, 1985 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Charlotte Dipanda grew up with a passion for music, to the point where she began singing in local cabarets at the age of 15. By the time she reached secondary school, she had decided to devote herself fully to music, and it was as a backing singer that she took her first steps in the profession. With Jeannot Hens, a Cameroonian guitarist who took her under his wing, she recorded her first album in 2001, soberly entitled Jeannot Hens et Charles Dipanda. She then headed for Paris, which she joined to perfect her skills. She took piano, singing and music theory lessons. Introduced to Congolese music icon Papa Wemba, she joined his network, which enabled her not only to sing backing vocals for him, but also for artists such as Manu Dibango, Idrissa Diop, Rokia Traoré and Axelle Red. In 2008, however, she decided to go solo and released her very first album, Msipa, featuring tracks such as "Bwel", "Bassam " and "Eyaya". She followed this up in 2012 with Dube L'Am, on which the prestigious bassist Richard Bona makes a guest appearance on the track "Bodimbea". Massa followed in 2015, Un Jour Dans Ma Vie in 2018 and CD in 2021.
