Drexciya

Drexciya was an American techno and electro duo from Detroit, Michigan. The group emerged as a significant contributor to the Detroit techno scene, known for their anonymity and mythological themes inspired by science fiction. Drexciya's debut release was the Deep Sea Dweller EP in 1992. Their subsequent releases included Drexciya 2: Bubble Metropolis (1993), Drexciya 3: Molecular Enhancement (1993), and Aquatic Invasion (1995). The duo's music often featured deep, powerful sounds and rare vocal elements, creating an introspective atmosphere. Notable albums include Drexciya 4: The Unknown Aquazone (1994), Neptune’s Lair (1999), and Grava 4 (2002). Drexciya's themes frequently revolved around underwater worlds and the mythical Drexciyans, symbolizing the African diaspora. One of the members, James Stinson, passed away in 2002. Several albums were released under various pseudonyms on different labels. Drexciya's influence continued through producers like Sherard Ingram, who released works inspired by their style.
