Gumu, an Indonesian independent pop band, comprises a group of college friends who share a deep passion for Japanese pop culture. Through active participation in campus events and Japanese pop cultural gatherings, they have finely crafted their signature blend of anime songs, visual novel music, and modern Japanese pop.
During their journey, Gumu underwent a transformative period of musical exploration, refining their style and direction. In 2020, they made the decision to adopt the name "Gumu," derived from the romanization of グム, a nickname affectionately given to their leader, Agum Pratama, during his exchange study in Tokyo.
Gumu's music is a remarkable fusion of realistic and fictional storytelling, evoking a wide range of emotions. From moments of happiness, cheerfulness, and euphoria to heartfelt sentiments, hopefulness, mellowness, and even delving into themes of melancholy, their songs showcase a rich tapestry of feelings. Notably, their lyrics stand out for their unique approach, often resembling heartfelt letters penned to loved ones, radiating sincerity and romanticism.
With their self-produced singles, "Satu Cerita di dalam Memori" and "Taman Kota," Gumu exemplifies their skillful fusion of Indonesian language, culture, and the captivating style of Japanese pop music. These early releases have not only shaped their distinct sound but have also laid the foundation for their first EP, "Coba Lihat ke Luar Jendela," which was released on January 2, 2023.
