Candy Flip, an electronic music duo from Stoke-on-Trent, England, were formed in 1990 by Danny Spencer and Ric Peet. The band, named after the slang term "candyflipping" for the practice of taking ecstasy and LSD simultaneously, initially gained recognition with their cover version of "Strawberry Fields Forever", which reached Number 3 on the UK Singles Chart in 1990. This track was a club hit before crossing over into the pop chart and featured a drum beat sampled from James Brown's "Funky Drummer". Candy Flip's debut album, Madstock..., was released in 1990, blending rave beats with synthpop influences from bands such as the Pet Shop Boys. Notable singles included "This Can Be Real" and "Redhills Road", though these did not achieve significant chart success. The duo disbanded in 1992. Post-Candy Flip, Ric Peet worked as a record producer and engineer, while Danny Spencer became part of the remix duo Sure Is Pure, contributing to notable hits such as Sister Sledge's updated version of "We Are Family".
