The Cowsills, an American singing group from Newport, Rhode Island, formed in 1965. The original lineup consisted of four brothers: Barry, Bill, Bob, and John Cowsill. Inspired by The Everly Brothers and later by The Beatles, the group began performing in local venues and television shows during their father's military assignment in Ohio. Their first single "All I Really Want To Be Is Me" was released in 1965. In 1967, they signed with MGM Records and released their debut album The Cowsills, which included the hit single "The Rain, The Park & Other Things". This song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard charts and sold over three million copies. Their subsequent albums, including Captain Sad And His Ship Of Fools (1968) and II X II (1969), featured notable tracks such as "Indian Lake" and a cover of the musical "Hair", both of which reached significant chart positions. The group's success extended to television appearances, including their own special and roles in commercials for the American Dairy Association. In 1972, several members left the band, leading to various reunions and solo projects over the years. Notable posthumous releases include The Billy Cowsill Benefit Concert Featuring The Cowsills (2013).
