Biography

Even though American actor Austin Butler first rose to notoriety in dramas like Life Unexpected, Switched at Birth, or The Carrie Diaries, it was his role as Elvis Presley on Baz Luhrmann's 2022 musical biopic Elvis that finally thrust him into the spotlight at an international level. Born on August 17, 1991, in Anaheim, California, he made his debut as a background actor in 2005 on Nickelodeon's Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. His career took off in the following years with starring roles on the teen-oriented shows Hannah Montana, iCarly, and Zoey 101. In 2012, Austin Butler joined the cast of the Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries alongside actress Anna Sophia Robb. His transition from teenage heartthrob to critically acclaimed actor began in 2018 when he landed the role of Don Parritt in the Broadway play The Iceman Cometh. Shortly after a brief yet memorable appearance on Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019, he was cast as The King of Rock and Roll in the Elvis Presley biopic, Elvis. His flawless performance in the film received a standing ovation during its premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and elicited praise from the late singer's family. He also lent his voice to the film's original soundtrack, whose third single "Trouble" reached Number 50 on the Australian Top 100.
