Longpigs are a British alternative rock band formed in Sheffield, United Kingdom. The group consists of Crispin Hunt on vocals and guitar, Richard Hawley on guitar, Simon Stafford on bass guitar, and Dee Boyle on drums. Initially signed with Elektra Records, Longpigs faced early setbacks when lead singer Hunt was injured in a car accident and the UK arm of their record label closed. Their contract was later purchased by Mother Records, leading to extensive touring and opening acts for bands like Radiohead. The band's first singles on Mother Records included "Happy Again", "She Said", and "Jesus Christ". In 1996, they released their debut album The Sun Is Often Out, which was well-received, reaching number 26 in the UK and being declared one of the year’s best albums by Q and Melody Maker. The single "On and On" from this album reached the Top 20 in the UK Singles Chart. Longpigs attempted to gain popularity in America with their single "On and On", which briefly reached the Alternative U.S. Top 10, but their second album Mobile Home (released in October 1999) failed to sustain commercial success. The band disbanded shortly after Mother Records folded in 2000. Dee Boyle, the original drummer, passed away in April 2017 at the age of 52. In 2013, a compilation album On and On: The Anthology was released, featuring material from their two studio albums and previously unreleased tracks.
