Emmanuel Top, born on 30 October 1971 in Tourcoing, France, is an electronic music producer whose career began in the late 1980s amid the New Beat scene. He first gained attention with club‑favoured tracks such as "Cactus Rhythm" and "Raw Mission" released under the pseudonym Plexus, which attracted the attention of Belgian label DIKI Records and later led to the establishment of his own studio, Le Studio des Ondes, in 1992. In 1995 he signed with Novamute, a subsidiary of Mute, and released Asteroid and the single "Lobotomie", the latter frequently played by DJs like The Chemical Brothers. The same year he launched the label Attack Records, issuing early EPs such as Acid Phase and Turkish Bazaar. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s he released numerous EPs and singles, including "Mars" (2003) and "Ecsta-Deal" (2010), while collaborating with artists such as Bruno Sanchioni under the BBE moniker. After a decade‑long hiatus, Emmanuel Top returned in 2011 with Idealism, reissued his 1993‑2002 catalog digitally, and released a series of 12 albums called Soundtrack in 2013 under Attack Records. His work has been recognized for its influence on French techno and its integration into club culture, solidifying his position as a persistent figure in electronic music.
