Listen to R & J Stone on Deezer
A short-lived success, R & J Stone was formed in 1975 by Briton Russell Oliver Stone (born in Norwich in 1946) and his wife, American Joanne Stone. Initially members of James Last's band, they combined their voices to create an original pop and soul duo, and scored an immediate hit with the song "We Do It", composed by themselves, which reached number 5 in the British charts in 1976. This single success gave rise to an album of the same name. In 1977, Russell Stone stepped away from the microphone to concentrate on writing and producing his second album, R & J. Joanne Stone died of a brain tumor in 1979. Russell Stone went on to work in production in Munich, producing three albums under his own name, before passing away on August 21, 2024 at the age of 77.
