Biography

Kate Nash was born in Dublin on July 6th, 1987 but relocated to London with her parents whilst still a child. Failing to get into the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, her career in acting fell at the first hurdle, but the young Nash picked herself up and began expressing her thoughts via songwriting. It wasn't long before she was performing her work in local bars and uploading it to the popular music and social networking website MySpace. The support rolled in, as did a manager and producers, with her debut piece hot on their heels. Caroline's “A Victim” was released on 7" vinyl in 2007, paving the way for huge industry interest and a lucrative record deal with a big label. Backed to the hilt, Nash's first single “Foundations” flew into the charts, becoming an overnight hit and reaching Number 2 in the UK. Her debut album Made Of Bricks went one better, slamming straight into the top spot of the UK album charts and spawning several more successes including “Mouthwash”, “Pumpkin Soup” and “Nicest Thing”. Her solo career continues, alongside her performances in punk band The Receeders where she plays bass guitar. Her sophomore effort My Best Friend Is You (2010) again broke the UK top ten, although her ensuing solo works have been comparatively little-known, with 2013’s heavier, rock-oriented Girl Talk reaching #85 in the UK and 2018’s Yesterday Was Forever, an introspective musical exploration of Nash’s mental health, failing to chart.
