Katie Crutchfield, better known as the leader of solo project Waxahatchee, is a singer-songwriter from Birmingham, Alabama. Previously a member of P.S. Eliot alongside her sister Alison (who is now a member of the indie band Swearin'), Crutchfield released her solo record under the Waxahatchee moniker, 'American Weekend', in 2011 on Don Giovanni Records. Her heartfelt lyrics and folk-inspired melodies resonated with many fans and she instantly gained a loyal cult following. Second album 'Cerulean Salt' was released two years later and had a heavier sound, mainly down to the fact that Waxahatchee was a full-band project for the first time.
Waxahatchee signed to Merge Records in 2015 and released third full-length 'Ivy Tripp', before heading out on nationwide tours of the USA with the likes of The New Pornographers as well as touring further afield in Europe on headline shows. In 2017, fourth album 'Out in the Storm' was released with the album focusing on the theme of a toxic relationship.
Fifth full-length album 'Saint Cloud' was released in March 2020.
