The album on which it appeared, 'Project: Funk Da World' peaked at number six on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart.
Born in New Jersey, he released a single as a teenager before he met Combs who offered him his first contract on the Bad Boy label. 'Get Down', another single from the 'Project: Funk' album, went to number 17 on the Hip-Hop Songs Chart and number 38 on the Hot 100. His 1997 release 'Operation: Get Down' went to number 17 on the Hip-Hop Albums Chart with 'What I Need' reaching number 55 on the Hip-Hop Songs Chart.
