Natasha Khan, (born 25 October 1979 in London, England) better known by her stage name Bat for Lashes, was born to an English mother and a Pakistani father; former professional squash player Rehmat Khan. After her parents' separation, Khan began playing piano, later pursuing music and visual arts at the University of Brighton, making her breakthrough with the dreamy track "What's A Girl To Do" from her 2007 debut album Fur And Gold - a seductive mix of hypnotic electronica which earned her a nomination for the Mercury Prize. Her ambitious 2009 follow-up, Two Suns, a mystical concept album featuring the Scott Walker duet "The Big Sleep," received global recognition, charting at number 5 in the UK, number 17 in Ireland, and reaching the top 40 in Europe. Khan's third album, The Haunted Man, was released in October 2012 and included singles "Laura" and "All Your Gold,” landing at number 6 on the UK Albums Chart, number 7 in Ireland and number 21 in Australia. Collaborating with producer Dan Carey and the band Toy, Khan debuted the Sexwitch project in 2015, releasing an eponymous album featuring covers of 1970s psychedelic and world folk songs. Khan returned to the studio soon after to record her fourth solo album The Bride (2016), featuring the lead single "In God's House" which hit number 9 in the UK and earned the singer another Mercury Music Prize nomination. Inspired by 1980s music and cinema, Khan’s fifth album, Lost Girls (2019) reached number 13 on the UK charts and the singer returned five years later with folkloric The Dream of Delphi, which climbed to number 73 and featured singles such as "Letter to My Daughter" and "Home."
