Scottish pop singer Kelly Marie was
born Jacqueline McKinnon on October 16, 1957 in Paisley. She began performing
young and enjoyed hits in France while still a teenager with her initial
singles, “Who’s That Lady with My Man?”, her first Number 1 anywhere in
the world, and “Help Me”, both released in 1976. She embraced
disco and scored a top 5 hit in South Africa and Australia with 1978’s “Make
Love to Me”, which represented her biggest break through to that point in
an English language market. Her 1979 single “Feels Like I’m in Love” failed
initially, but the disco track slowly grew a substantial following, and when
the song was re-released in 1980 it became the biggest smash of Marie’s career.
It went to Number 1 in the UK, top 10 throughout Europe, and even hit Number 10
on the U.S. Dance chart. The success of the single led to a re-release of
another old single, “Loving Just for Fun”, that reached Number 21 in the
UK. “Hot Love” reached Number 22 just three months later in February of
1981. One more minor hit, “Love Trial”, followed in May, thus ending
Marie’s run of chart success. She would continue to record through the 80s,
even scoring a Number 2 hit in Denmark with 1988’s “Stealing My Time”. A
smattering of single were released in the 1990s, and in the 2000s she was a
contestant on the competitive singing series Hit Me, Baby, One More Time.
