The spoof creation of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo (aka Flight Of The Conchords) started life in London's comedy clubs before stealing the show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, landing a show on BBC radio and becoming an HBO television series. Following the down and out Kiwi musicians as they bumble around New York in search of fame and fortune, the show's deadpan, subtle humour and bizarre, rambling storylines soon made the lads cult favourites in a similar vein to Spinal Tap and The Rutles. With "rhymes so potent, that in this small segment, they make all the ladies in the area pregnant," the parody songs soundtrack the journey as the band time travel with 1970s Bowie, take the rap monikers the Hiphopopotamus and the Rhymenocerus and warn that Fashion is Danger. The huge popularity of the show sent debut album Flight of the Conchords (2008) - featuring songs from the first series - to Number 3 in the US charts and their follow-up I Told You I Was Freaky (2009) also made the Top 20.
