Light of the World, a British jazz-funk band, was formed in London in 1978. The original lineup included Jean-Paul Maunick, Everton McCalla, Paul Williams, Neville McKreith, Chris Etienne, Peter Hinds, Kenny Wellington, and David Baptiste. Their debut single "Swingin'" peaked at number 45 on the UK Singles Chart in 1979. This was followed by two top 40 hits: a cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers' song "I Shot the Sheriff" (number 40) and the double A-side single "I'm So Happy" / "Time" (number 35). Their debut album Light of the World was released in 1979 on Ensign Records. The band's second album, Round Trip, was released in late 1980 and reached number 73 on the UK Albums Chart. In 1981, David Baptiste, Kenny Wellington, and Neville McKreith left to form Beggar & Co. Gee Bello, Nat Augustin, and Paul Williams released a third album titled Check Us Out in 1982. A greatest hits album was issued by Ensign Records in 1985. In 1999, Light of the World briefly reunited and recorded an album titled Inner Voices, with Nat Augustin on lead vocals, Richard Bull as producer, and Kenny Wellington as co-producer.
