Mick Harvey, born in Rochester, Australia, on August 29, 1958, met Nick Cave at high school in 1973, with whom he formed The Boys Next Door. Renamed Birthday Party, the punk band toured Europe between London and Berlin from 1980 to 1983, before disbanding. Mick Harvey continued to play drums with his old high-school friend in Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and also shared time in another band, Crime & the City Solution, before venturing out on his own. On his first album, Intoxicated Man (1995), he adapted Serge Gainsbourg's repertoire for an English-speaking audience, and continued the process on Pink Elephants (1997). Mainly a guitarist, he accompanies PJ Harvey and The Triffids, dabbles in production, composes film soundtracks(Alta Marea & Vaterland ) and fills his albums One Man's Treasure (2005) and Two of Diamonds (2007) with obscure covers. After twenty-five years of loyal service to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, he composed and recorded Sketches from the Book of the Dead (2011), followed by Four (Acts of Love) (2013). He then returned to adapting Serge Gainsbourg songs in Delirium Tremens (2016) and Intoxicated Women (2017).
