Since her debut in the 1960s, Marlène Jobert has become one of France's favorite actresses. Born into a military family in Algiers on November 4, 1940, she studied dramatic art in Paris and began her career as a model before moving on to the stage. After a serious car accident in 1962, she got her first film role in Jean-Luc Godard's Masculin féminin in 1966. This marked the start of a career punctuated by such French film successes as Alexandre le bienheureux (1967), Faut pas prendre les enfants du bon Dieu pour des canards sauvages (1968), L'Astragale (1968) and Les Mariés de l'An II (1971). At the same time, Marlène Jobert appeared in TV movies and the TV series Les Dossiers de l'Agence O (1968), as well as in plays. The freckled actress distinguished herself in both comedies and more dramatic roles throughout the 1970s and 1980s. After a first album of Prévert poems in 1978, the actress turned singer with "C'est un éternel besoin d'amour" in 1984 and the album Tout Pour Se Plaire (1986). In 1998, she gave up film to devote herself to a career as a storyteller for Atlas and then Glénat Jeunesse. Her niece, Elsa Lunghini, has launched a successful singing career. Marlène Jobert is also the mother of actress Eva Green (b. 1980). Named Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2014, she will receive the insignia of Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 2022.
