Thou

Thou is an American sludge metal band formed in 2005 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Renowned for their massive, slow and oppressive sound, the band blend heavy guitars and dense textures with atmospheric and melancholic atmospheres, creating a distinctive style in the extreme metal landscape. Their music also incorporates elements of doom metal, post-metal and noise, while tackling socially and politically engaged themes, often with a dark, introspective poetry. Thou has released several critically acclaimed major albums, such as Tyrant (2007), Peasant (2008), Heathen (2014), Magus (2018) and May Our Chambers Be Full (with Emma Ruth Rundle, 2020). In addition to their studio albums, they are known for their numerous collaborations with other bands from the underground metal scene. The 2020s saw the release of Hightower (2021) and Umbilical (2024).
