Better known as an actor, action hero, and WWE wrestler, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – born in Hayward, California on May 2, 1972 – can add ‘recording artist’ to his resume thanks to the soundtracks to the Disney animated films Moana (2016) and Moana 2 (2024). Using the stage name Rocky Maivia, Dwayne Johnson joined the WWE in 1996. Soon after, he was referred to as The Rock and became one of the most popular and influential wrestlers in the world. After earning 10 world championships, two intercontinental championships, five tag-team championships, and many other awards, he set his sights on a career in Hollywood. His first acting role outside of wrestling on a 1999 episode of the TV series That ‘70s Show. Dwayne Johnson made his motion picture debut as The Scorpion King in the 2001 film The Mummy Returns. His movie career took off and he became one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood, appearing in hit films such as Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Hercules (2014), San Andreas (2015), and Fast & Furious 7 (2015), Breaking away from his normal action roles, Dwayne Johnson embraced comedy and music, providing the voice of Maui in the hit animated film Moana (2016) and its sequel Moana 2 (2024). For the first of the two animated films, he performed “You’re Welcome,” while he sang “Can I Get a Chee Hoo?” for the soundtrack to the sequel. He can also be heard on Wyclef Jean’s “It Doesn’t Matter” (2000) and Tech N9ne’s “Face Off.” While his successful movie career continues, Dwayne Johnson’s trips to the recording studio have been few and far between.
