Born in Georgia, she grew up in Michigan and joined the national tour of 'The Will Rogers Follies' as a teenager. She toured in 'Grease' in 1995 and also in 'Les Misérables' and landed the leading role in the La Jolla Playhouse production of 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' that took her to Broadway in 2002 where she won her first Tony Award.
