Dan Lyons is a musician and songwriter based in Margate, Kent. He cut his teeth playing in Fat White Family and Phobophobes, and co-writing songs with Misty Miller. His sound has been described as “Quintessential surrealist Anglo – pop”. Echoes of Echo & The Bunnymen and ‘Rubber Soul’ era Beatles entwine with dark lo-fi sensibilities that nod towards The Go-Betweens, Syd Barrett and The Clean.
Dan’s debut LP ‘SubSuburbia‘ is out on Futureproof Records and described as . . . "like a magnifying glass over a bloodstained map of the UK. Broken relationships drowned in booze and chemicals, a birds eye view of a total destruction of hope, a hopelessly romantic saga. A trip to France, memories of drunk school friends and first loves, purity and the scrap of positivity that pulls us all through when we’re at our worst. Holding a mirror to the very best and the absolute worst of British people, places and things.”
Since playing at SXSW Festival in Austin in 2018, Dan Lyons and The Fantastic Band – Freya Warsi (Vocals/Tambourine), Joanna Curwood (Electric Guitar) Robin McCready (Bass Guitar) Rhys Bury (Drums) and part-time members William de Courcy (Electric Piano) & Henry Gabbot (Keyboards) – have embarked on support tours with Peter Doherty & The Libertines in the UK and France as well as playing their own headlines shows across the UK. The release of Lyons’ debut album ’SubSuburbia’ in March saw the band hit the road for a ten day headline tour, their first, which was cut short by the corona virus outbreak.
