Biography

The genre-defying electronic duo Yello are Switzerland's most famous music export. Originally formed in 1979 by keyboard player Boris Blank and sampler Carlos Perón, the two musicians decided they needed a vocalist to augment the sound. They chose Dieter Meier, variously described as an industrialist, a gambler, a conceptual artist, a film director and at one time acting as the Swiss Cultural attaché. Meier's suave image was the perfect foil for an experimental, ground-breaking electronic band and his knowledge of film-making helped Yello produce some memorable videos in the MTV era. Perón left to pursue a solo career in 1983 and Dieter and Blank subsequently went on to produce some of Yello's best known works including the hit singles 'Oh Yeah' and 'The Race', both of which have featured in numerous films and TV shows.

With 13 studio albums to the their credit and a prolific singles output the band have maintained a powerful presence in the pop business and film industry ever since their inception. In 2005 they resurfaced with re-releases of their early albums 'Solid Pleasure', 'Claro Que Si', 'You Gotta Say Yes to Another Exess', 'Stella', 'One Second' and 'Flag'. In 2010 they released 'Yello By Yello - The Anthology Box', a collection of their hits from the previous 30 years, as well as 'The Singles Collection: 1980-2010'.
