Yvonne Chaka Chaka

Yvonne Chaka Chaka, born Yvonne Machaka on March 18, 1965 in Soweto, South Africa, is a singer and songwriter. Her career began at age 19 when Phil Hollis of Dephon Records discovered her in Johannesburg. She released her debut single "I'm in Love With a DJ" in 1985. Chaka Chaka has collaborated with notable artists such as Bono, Angélique Kidjo, Annie Lennox, and Youssou N'Dour. She performed for world leaders including Queen Elizabeth II and US President Bill Clinton. Her humanitarian efforts include being a champion for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the United Nations MDG Envoy for Africa, and the Goodwill Ambassador for the Roll Back Malaria Partnership.
