Mac and Katie Kissoon, a pop soul duo, were born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Mac Kissoon was born Gerald Farthing on November 11, 1943, and his sister Katie Kissoon was born Katherine Farthing on March 11, 1951. The siblings emigrated to the United Kingdom with their family in 1962. Mac began his career as a member of the Marionettes in 1966 and 1967, then fronted his own band which played U.S. bases in Europe. Returning to the UK in 1969, he released "Get Down With It Satisfaction", a medley that became a Top 30 hit in the Netherlands. Mac and Katie Kissoon made their first collaborative recording with "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" in July 1971. While it did not chart highly in the UK, it reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1971. In 1975, they finally broke through in the UK when "Sugar Candy Kisses" reached number 3. In 1976, they released their album The Two of Us, featuring the single "Dream of Me". By the early 1980s, Mac and Katie Kissoon's pop soul music career had receded, but they became in-demand backing singers and session musicians.
